Spring Term 1
What will your child be learning about?
Traditional Fairy Tales in weeks 1- 5 We will be reading ‘The Three Billy Goats Gruff’, ‘The Three Little Pigs’, and ‘The Gingerbread Man’ and will be watching a performance of The Frog Prince by a theatre company. We will be focusing on calculation and writing work to do with these tales.
Pirates in weeks 6 and 7. We will have a visit from a pirate and be looking at pirates in the past and discussing how sea-life has changed. We will be reading a variety of pirate stories and basing our writing and improving number skills on these adventures.
What can you do at home to help your child with their learning?
- Visit the local library or the school library – they will have a wide variety of traditional tales that you can read and share with your child (Cinderella, Snow White, Rumpelstiltskin, Sleeping Beauty, Goldilocks etc)
- Keep an eye out for after Christmas sales – you might be able to pick up a bargain book full of traditional tales
- Make puppets using lollisticks or kitchen rolls at home. This will give your child a chance to retell any of the stories they have been learning about!
- Keep practising writing their first name. Try writing it in shaving foam or mousse – hours of fun!
- Encourage writing for a real purpose such as thank you letters, cards and shopping lists
- Keep counting to 10 or 20!
